Welcome to the Slow Readers’ Book Club – a Dubai-based book club for people who don’t have time to read around their busy schedules. We alternate classic literature & modern classics with more contemporary reads – so there really is something for everyone!
We’re all about fitting reading into your lifestyle, not the other way around! We meet on every 1st Thursday of the month, and we hope yo see you at our next meet up!
Come to our next Book Club!
Our next book club meet up is on:
Thursday 6th November, 7pm at Mezzanine Social & Kitchen, Souk Madinat.
Tickets are available via Eventbrite, and capacity is limited, so book cow to avoid losing your spot!

A Dubai book club for people who don’t have a lot of time to read

The Slow Readers’ Book Club is designed for people who either: want to read more than they currently do (without the pressure of tight deadlines) or want to find connection with others through reading. Or both!
We know that you don’t have a lot of time, so we’re not going to be picking 700 page tomes for your reading pleasure. We’re picking short(er), impactful books that stir feeling within you.
Take a look at our previous Book Club picks:

August Slow Readers’ Book Club: Fahrenheit 451
In Fahrenheit 451, Bradbury shows us the chilling consequences of technology interrupting human connection through social and parasocial relationships in the text, and particularly in the relationship between Guy and Mildred. Guy laments that ‘the walls were always talking to Mildred’6, making moments of real connection difficult in the white noise of the parlour. Perhaps even impossible.
This image seems horrific, until you realise that we’ve all done it – then it becomes alarming.
July Slow Readers’ Book Club: The Housemaid
How many red flags does one person need to ignore before willingly walking into an attic that only locks from the outside. Was Millie’s living situation ever dire enough to allow herself to become a prisoner – again?

June Slow Readers’ Club: The Picture of Dorian Gray
A story of repressed desire vs. hedonism, the limits of human morality & vaulting ambition. This 216 page wonder will stick with you for years.
Looking for Bookish Spots in Dubai?
Check out our Dubai Bookish City Guide
Dubai is known for its glitz and glamour – but there’s a bookish side to the city that you can enjoy if you want to experience a slower, cosier pace.
Here are just some of my favourite spots that I’ve discovered over the past two years for the bookish-ly inclined.
